Spring and autumn are the best periods for cycling because temperatures are not that high and the weather is nice. You can discover Cres by bike easily – from Dražica bay and ACI marina Cres, through the centre of the city, then along the seashore past to the hotel, the camping site and the beaches all the way do to the tourist resort Gavza: bike trails are simple and easy.
You can get to almost every village on the island using the main road or any of the old roads or macadams. One of the most popular bike trails is the 15-kilometre long macadam road from the Cres marina to Valun. The road goes on to villages above Valun: Pernat, Zbičina and Lubenice. The trail goes from ACI Marina Cres and along the waterworks road. After you leave the marina you’ll see a macadam road from which just follow road signs for Valun. While cycling you’ll come across hurdle gates that prevent sheep from passing through so please close the door behind you. After the macadam you’ll see a paved road leading to Valun.
Another interesting trail starts at Podol, a village above Valun. The trail passes Vrana Lake and you will see some great views of the lake and its surroundings. The trail passes through the village od Podol and joins the main road furher along.
An attractive trail in the north of the island is the macadam from Sv. Petar to Ivanje. You can reach this trail by follong the major island road in the direction of Porozina. Turn right at the road sign to Beli and go on to Sv. Petar. You’ll reach Ivanje by an eight-kilometre long path which is partially paved. At the 5th kilometre of the road to Ivanje you’ll come upon an abandoned village Petričevi where the path forks. If you turn left, the trail will take you through the woods and the hills of Tramuntana. At the end of the trail you’ll get to the major island road.
